Just finished this illustration for the upcoming promotion catalog. The theme of the catalog this time was perspective.
Given such a broad theme, you would think it would've been easy coming up with an idea but that was not the case. I really struggled nailing an idea that was both fit the theme yet fun for me to illustrate. When given the word "perspective" my mind automatically went to scenes that had incorporated large heights. At first I wrestled with all kinds of flying machines and animals, then treehouses, and even castles. Each time, I'd try to envision the picture in my head but each time, I ended up abandoning the idea because it just didn't "feel" right. One thing I've come to realize doing these illustrations is that if I'm not really excited about the idea going in, it's usually not worth my time. And so I must've brainstormed for over a week but luckily this fishing idea came to me.
All in all I'm pretty happy with how it came out. I wanted to create something a little different this time. Something that's not my normal cutesy, and sillier themed illustrations. Although this piece still has a touch of humor to it(to me anyway), overall, the illustration has a nice quiet mood about it.
Love the illustration. And the humor. Very whimsical and good representation of the theme. Well done.

ReplyDeleteThank you Ummul! You are correct, it is certainly not easy, it can be a struggle sometimes. But it makes it even more satisfying when you do create something you consider successful. Keep it up!
